Match Report - 10 Oct 2009, Royston Hockey Club Ladies 1st XI beat Stevenage 1st XI
Royston Ladies 1sts came back strongly from their unlucky defeat last week and convincingly beat Stevenage 2nds 4-2.
After a slow start Royston started to find their stride pressing forward with strong attacking passes by Kerry Alexander, Katie Ellard and Kirsty Penfold down the left wing.
Against the run of play Royston went behind from a quick breakthrough by the Stevenage forwards. Royston battled straight back with a good short corner routine which was finished off by Sarah Buckerfield.
The 2nd half saw Royston dominate the match, Ruth Askham ans Sophie Gathercole linked well to provide Buckerfield with her 2nd of the game. Great play down the left again saw Kirsty Mckenzie slot the 3rd home with a reverse stick shot. Roystons fourth goal came when super play from Denise Underwood earnt Royston another short corner which saw Askhams shot saved and Buckerfield rifled home her 3rd.
Royston continued to play flowing, attacking hockey but let in an unfortunate goal in the closing minutes of the match.
