Juniors Section
Welcome to our Junior Hockey Section
Where great players begin...
Royston Hockey runs a very strong youth hockey section, and regularly have thirty plus juniors out on a Sunday morning. The training is hosted by our Junior coaching team of Colin Bateman, Brian Mayoss, Paul Visagie, Lisa Thompson and Bob Biddlecombe, along with several other helpers from the senior teams. The training is held at the new astro turf at The Meridian School (Garden Walk, Royston, SG8 7JH) on Sundays from 11h00 through to about 12h30, September through to about April.
The quality of the coaching provided is testament to the fact that every Royston senior club team has one or more players who started their hockey career at the Sunday junior training. There are even several players making their mark in the Club's 1st Teams!
Were are always looking for new young players aged 6 years and above , so if you are keen to try out the game please do contact us, and we can make arrangements for you to come down to meet the rest of the squad and join in the Sunday sessions. It's really great fun, and you can learn the game at your own level amongst players of your age group, and there is always friendly help and advice from the coaches.

Once again this year there was no VP's Day, so the Juniors finished off their season with the final 'StickSkills' assessment, with all the youngsters showing fantastic improvement in their individual skills.
The Neville Brown Trophy is presented every year to the young player who has shown the most personal improvement over the season, and was awarded to Josh Hughes for his exceptional development over the year. Having now moved up to playing in a senior team he is proving to be a real asset to the side. This sets him in good standing for future progress and we hope to see him moving up through the senior teams over the next few years. very well done Josh!!
England Hockey Long Term Athlete Development Programme (LTAD)
England Hockey have identified the need to have a standard framework on which all young players can be assessed throughout the early years of their hockey development. To this end they have put together a player syllabus to guide young players on the required level of skills and technical ability they should have achieved by a particular age.
The Junior training that RHC will be delivering is based around this platform and syllabus, and we will endeavour to help you achieve the required levels of proficiency in your game as outlined in the syllabus. Please have a look at the syllabus for your age group, to see where you are and identify areas in your development where the Coaches can help improve your skills. If you have any queries regarding this please speak with Paul Visagie the Club Coach.
