This year Royston Hockey Club will be aiming to complete the Clubs 1st Accreditation, and as part of this we will be putting together a complete coaching development plan, right from the Juniors through to the Senior sessions. Our aim is to develop a strong coaching policy that will provide a structured approach to delivering the best possible coaching for all players at all levels. To this end we will be training up additional Coaches at Level 1 and will use them as a group to plan and deliver coaching throughout the club.

In 1979 I represented the Rhodesian U18 National Senior Schools side and in 1980 represented the Rhodesian Airforce Hockey team and was selected for the National Junior U21 Squad. In 1981 I moved down to Pretoria South Africa where I played Premier Division hockey for the Harlequins Club through until 1989, captaining the Club First XI for 5 of those years. From 1982 to 1989 I represented both Transvaal and Northern Transvaal Provincial Hockey sides (both Indoor and Outdoor). In 1984 I achieved Provincial 2 Level umpiring award. In 1990 I moved to Natal where I played Premier Division hockey for Crusaders Hockey Club until about 1995, when I suddenly realised I was getting too old and slow! In 2001 we emigrated to the UK (Royston), where I played / captained the 2nd XI with a few games on occasion for the first XI. In 2002/3 season I unofficially coached the Royston Men's section. From 2006 I have been Royston's full-time Coach for all Men's and Ladies senior sides. I completed my England Hockey Level 2 Coaching course in October 2007, and am working on my Level 3 qualification at the moment. In 2008 I was appointed as Head Coach to run one of the two Cambridge Hockey Junior Development Centres (JDC) and coached the Cambridgeshire U17 Girls County Academy Squad (JAC) for 2009/10.
